Description
This classic Italian tiramisu is a heavenly dessert made with layers of coffee-soaked ladyfingers, creamy mascarpone, and a dusting of rich cocoa powder. It’s indulgent, easy to make, and perfect for any occasion!
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 egg yolks
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 16 oz mascarpone cheese
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 2 cups brewed espresso (cooled)
- 3 tbsp rum, Marsala wine, or coffee liqueur (optional)
- 24–30 ladyfingers (savoiardi)
- Unsweetened cocoa powder (for dusting)
Instructions
- In a heatproof bowl, whisk together egg yolks and sugar until pale and creamy. Place over a double boiler and whisk until the mixture thickens slightly. Let cool.
- Gently fold the mascarpone into the egg yolk mixture until smooth.
- In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream to stiff peaks, then fold it into the mascarpone mixture. Set aside.
- Mix the espresso with rum or liqueur, if using, in a shallow dish.
- Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, ensuring they are moist but not soggy.
- Arrange a layer of dipped ladyfingers at the bottom of a 9×13-inch dish.
- Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
- Repeat with another layer of dipped ladyfingers and top with the remaining mascarpone mixture.
- Dust the top with cocoa powder.
- Refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight, to set and allow the flavors to meld.
- Serve chilled, with an additional sprinkle of cocoa powder if desired.
Notes
- For a non-alcoholic version, skip the rum or use vanilla extract for extra flavor.
- Ensure the coffee is cooled to prevent the ladyfingers from becoming too soft.
- For a lighter texture, use whipped egg whites instead of heavy cream.
- Tiramisu can also be served in individual cups or glasses for a modern twist.
