Description

These waffles are delightfully crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, perfect for breakfast or brunch. Customize with your favorite toppings like fresh fruits, whipped cream, or syrup. Make the batter ahead of time for even better flavor and texture!

Ingredients

Scale

Waffle Batter:

  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ½ tbsp caster sugar (or granulated sugar)
  • 4 tsp baking powder
  • Pinch of kosher salt
  • 1 ⅓ cups full-fat milk, slightly warmed
  • ½ tsp vanilla essence
  • 4 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 150g (11 tbsp) unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled

Optional Toppings:

  • Butter (softened)
  • Maple syrup, honey, or powdered sugar
  • Fresh fruits, whipped cream, melted chocolate, or jams

Instructions

  • Prepare Dry Ingredients:
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  • Combine Wet Ingredients:
Add the milk, eggs, and vanilla to the dry ingredients and whisk until combined. Gradually add melted butter and whisk until smooth.
  • Optional Resting:
Cover the batter and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight for softer waffles with better flavor.
  • Preheat Waffle Maker:
Heat your waffle maker according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Cook the Waffles:
Ladle the batter into the waffle maker, just enough to cover the iron. Cook until golden brown and crispy (about 3–6 minutes).
  • Serve and Enjoy:
Serve immediately with your favorite toppings or keep warm in a preheated 70°C/150°F oven.

Notes

  • Resting Time: Resting the batter enhances the texture and flavor.
  • Storage: Store leftover waffles in the fridge for 3–4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
  • Reheating: Reheat in a toaster or oven for crispy results.
  • Waffle Makers: Premium waffle irons yield thicker and crispier waffles, but any waffle maker works well with this batter.
